Message from Mr. Greata
As we wrap up the first quarter, we’re looking toward the future with excitement! Over 55 community members joined us for our annual Career Day, giving our students the invaluable opportunity to explore the diverse career paths available to them. As I walked around to the presentations, I heard so many great experiences and sound advice shared with our students.
A huge thank you to all our community volunteers for sharing your time and experiences with our students. Check out the picture below to see their smiling faces! Special thanks to our Career Day coordinators, Paula DiSalvo, Katherine Stransky, Kelsey Treague, Erinn Harris, and Anne Baker, and check out the list below of everyone that contributed!
Keep an eye out for a mailer we’ve sent home, featuring ways to get involved in our school community. This includes information on joining the PTSO, supporting the CAV Cupboard, and an exciting fundraiser to support student experiences as part of our recent name change. Plus, don’t miss the QR links in the mailer for easy access to more information. And, of course, don’t forget to stock up on CG Woodson spirit wear!
We also ask you to complete the Federal Impact Aid forms, now available in ParentVUE. Please take a moment to fill out a form for each school-aged child in your household. This survey brings over $4 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Education, benefitting all Fairfax County Public Schools.
It’s that time of year to recognize the hard work of our Woodson staff. We encourage you to consider nominating an outstanding employee who has positively impacted your student’s experience. Nominations for the Outstanding Employee Awards close on November 12; you’ll find the link to the nomination form below. Thank you for helping us honor our dedicated staff!
Please be aware that ParentVUE and StudentVUE gradebooks are currently unavailable while we finalize first-quarter grades. They’ll be back online by November 12 at 6 a.m.
Come cheer on our Woodson football team this Saturday at noon as they take on West Potomac here at home. Playoff excitement continues next week with volleyball, field hockey, and cross-country, so let’s keep showing our support for all our athletes.
There is no school tomorrow, Friday, November 1, as well as on Monday, November 4, and Tuesday, November 5. We hope you enjoy a restful and extended weekend with your family!

Gradebook in ParentVUE and StudentVUE
From now until November 12th at 6am ParentVUE and StudentVUE Gradebook viewing will be closed while 1st quarter grades are being finalized.
The infamous Ms. Glover was back with yet another costume and the same amount of spirit, as usual! Joining her today were the O'Brien's, who came as Terri and Bindi Irwin from The Crocodile Hunter. Crikey, it was a good day!

Nominations are now open for the Woodson Outstanding Employee Awards! These nominations are the beginning of the process that will end in the recognition of the Fairfax County Outstanding Employee Awards in an amazing celebration in June. To submit a nomination for a Woodson Outstanding Employee (categories listed below), please complete this Google Form.

Counselor Corner
It’s college application season! Woodson Counselors are hard at work completing secondary reports, submitting transcripts, and writing recommendation letters as we support the Class of 2025 on their journey to college. We’re excited for our seniors and are happy to partner with them as they manage all facets of their applications. No appointment is needed for drop-in assistance at Senior Support sessions every Wednesday before school at 7:30am in the College & Career Center.
It is critical that seniors plan ahead and are mindful of the strict 15-day deadline for transcript and letter requests so we can process our documents in time for their intended college deadlines. If you have a January 1st college deadline, please submit all required materials to Student Services by December 2nd. Please visit the Senior Padlet for additional resources.
Happy end of the 1st quarter! We encourage students who need academic support in specific classes to make arrangements with their teachers and consider using Varsity Tutors Launchpad and other resources listed on the Academic Support padlet. Families concerned about a class should contact their child’s teacher directly to discuss, collaborate, and evaluate the best next step for academic improvement. To find the name of your child’s teacher, please access their schedule through ParentVUE. Enjoy the long weekend!
College Recruiting Seminar
Attention parents and athletes!
In an effort to educate our parents and athletes about NCAA Eligibility, Athletic scholarships and the college recruiting process, we have contracted Dynamite Sports to conduct a one-hour seminar entitled “Guiding the College-Bound Athlete” on Thursday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Robinson in Recital Hall.
This seminar will help you to become more knowledgeable and REALISTIC about athletic scholarships and the recruiting process.
This seminar will teach you how to:
- Setup college visits
- Receive a scholarship or grant
- Get noticed & recruited
- Ensure NCAA freshman eligibility
- Create a "recruiting blueprint"
- Communicate with college coaches
Remember, it’s only one evening, and we as coaches want to give our athletes every possible opportunity to enjoy athletics beyond high school.
Attendees will receive a SAT/ACT Prep program valued at $350! *Limit 1 per family / Tech Support not included*

Impact Aid Forms
Impact Aid Forms are now available in SIS ParentVUE!
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. 2025 Virginia Summer Residential Governor's School (SRGS)
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers the opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students to apply to attend summer residential Governor’s schools in Academics and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Students who are accepted into one of the programs will live in residence halls in one of the state colleges in VA for four weeks in the June - late July timeframe. To learn more about SRGS opportunities and the application process, visit the VDOE website.
To be considered for an academic or VPA Governor’s school, students must complete the steps below.
1. Complete the interest forms linked below for either Academics, VPA, and Woodson. The forms are a required part of the application process and are due November 6th. No late entries will be accepted. When completing the form, enter a personal email address and do NOT use an fcpsschools.net email address. VDOE cannot send communications to the fcpsschools.net domain.
2. Complete the application for the specific program you wish to apply to and return to your school counselor who is supervising the Governor’s School application process.
- Academic applications are due to the school on December 13, 2024.
- VPA applications are due to the school on January 31, 2025.
