We are thrilled to announce that Carter G. Woodson High School has been awarded the Highest Achievement Award for Exemplar Performance by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). This prestigious honor recognizes schools that have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. Only 92 schools across the entire state of Virginia and only two high schools within Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) received this esteemed award.

The criteria for receiving this award are rigorous and include:

  • Meeting our benchmarks without relying solely on growth scores.
  • Ensuring that all student subgroups performed within ten percentage points of each other, demonstrating equity and inclusivity in our educational outcomes.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of every single member of our school community – our students, teachers, staff, parents, and administrators.

C. G. Woodson High School was formally recognized by the Fairfax County School Board on Thursday, January 23rd at 7:00 PM at Jackson Middle School.
