DISABILITY DISCLOSURE OR NOT – Tools are available to help young people make informed decisions about whether or not to disclose a disability and how much to disclose in education, employment, and social settings.  An interactive tool from the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability is The 411 on Disability Disclosure: A Workbook for Youth with Disabilities.  There are also a number of articles that may be useful:

HELPING STUDENTS WHO ARE PERFECTIONISTS …OR HAVE NO MOTIVATION AT ALL

NEW SPECIAL PROGRAMS

WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

16 – 20July – The World Affairs Council in Washington, DC is hosting its 7th annual Leadership Academy on International Affairs.  At this program, students will engage in simulations and engage with experts in the fields of globalization, trade and economics, human rights, peace and conflict, and multilateralism and sovereignty.  Priority registration began 1 May, but registration will continue to be received on a space-available basis until 25 JuneThe program’s cost is $150.00, and financial assistance is available for qualifying students.  To participate, students must be entering grades 10-12 in the fall of 2018 and have their parent’s/guardian’s consent to the terms of the program.  The application includes two 250-word essay questions.  Visit https://www.worldaffairsdc.org/ForStudents_LeadershipAcademy.aspx for more information and to access the program’s application.

NEW INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

NEW EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

ASSOCIATED CONSULTANTS, INC.

THE BERKEY SCHOLARSHIP

The Berkey offers a  $500 scholarship to the Senior planning to attend an accredited college, university or technical school in the United States who best explains the concept of water conservation and presents a new and exciting idea in this area. Applicants must provide proof of acceptance, a transcript confirming a 3.0 or better GPA, and 1,200-word essay discussing the importance of water conservation, along with an original idea of what can be done in the future.  For more information, visit Family Connection or https://theberkey.com/pages/scholarshipDeadline is 15 June.

FAITH FARHAT KHAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Faith Farhat Khan Scholarship Fund provides one $1,500 award to a female, Muslim, high school Senior with a 2.75 or better GPA and demonstrated financial need.  Completed applications must include two recommendations (one from a faculty member and one from a religious leader in your community), a Free/Reduced Meal Form stating eligibility for SNAP or TANF or an SAR from a FAFSA filing.  Applications must also include a 500 word essay about yourself, including a statement about your educational and career goals and how you plan to achieve these goals. Include any other information such as unique qualities, experiences and strengths that you think the FAITH Scholarship Committee should know about you. FAITH UNITED MUSLIM RELIEF REFUGEE SCHOLARSHIP

The Faith United Muslim Relief Refugee Scholarship provides one $5,000 scholarship to a Refugee who is a Muslim Senior or full-time college student with a 2.75 or better GPA who has demonstrated financial need.  Completed applications must include two recommendations (one from a faculty member and one from a religious leader in your community), a Free/Reduced Meal Form stating eligibility for SNAP or TANF or an SAR from a FAFSA filing.  Applications must also include a 500 word essay discussing how you overcame your personal challenges to pursue a higher education are required. KENMORE LAW GROUP SCHOLARSHIP

The Kenmore Law Group awards $500, three times a year, to students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with strong academics and who have contributed to the promotion of diversity as demonstrated by academic or work experiences.  Completed applications must include extracurriculars (including employment if any), honors and awards, a transcript and an essay (up to 800 words) answering three questions: 1) Why is diversity important to you?  2) In what ways have you contributed to the promotion of diversity so far?  3) How do you plan to promote diversity in your future career?  An application can be downloaded from Family Connection.  Upcoming deadlines are 30 July and 31 December.

MILITARY & FAMILY APPRECIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Volt Lighting offers $400 scholarships to active duty, retired U.S. service members, and their immediate family members.  Applicants must be between 16 and 25 years of age with a 2.75 or better GPA and be enrolled full-time in high school, or at a college/university or technical school.  Applicants must have earned less than $50,000 in the previous calendar year and be able to produce the applicable DD214 upon request.  Completed applications include your full name, current GPA, age, email address, name of your current school, and an essay (800 words or more) discussing one of four topics: (1) Describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability both in and out of school.  (2) Describe your most meaningful achievements and how they relate to your field of study and your future goals.  (3) Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your development.  (4) Choose a person or persons that you admire and explain why.
